what does it mean to have a good family?

I learn a lot from observing and being among other peoples families.

I think my own family is good in a lot of ways but also immature or underdeveloped in a lot of ways. I think in my family we are not good at listening to one another, being gracious and non-judgemental to one another, and not unduly burdening each other with things.

A good family doesn’t happen by accident. Rather, quite the opposite is the default. It’s takes a lot of effort and intention to fight the entropy of familial disintegration. Like anything else, it is hard and requires developing skill. What skills? I think principally: patience, communication, acceptance, respect, firm boundaries and a willingness to enact them, discipline and of course care. I think you have to make family a priority if you want a good one because it takes most of a humans free energy to keep it together and functioning well, especially as it grows with more children.

I think it’s one of the most interesting and impressive projects that one can undertake and i’m honestly really excited to start my own one day soon. It seems more rewarding, more fruitful and more awe-some than anything else I can imagine.
